FIRST POUR LE MERITE IN INDY HISTORY
Arthur Hess Gets Fifth Kill - Gotha and DrI Paste Bristols

Four players gathered at Scott Campbell's house on Thursday, December 13th for a mid-week gaming session, a couple of pizzas and Audra's yummy cookies. This was the second gaming day that the Campbells had hosted in less than a week and we appreciate their hospitality. Stephen, Jim Delp, Stephen Dale and Scott were all present.

The big news of the night was Aron Hess' Pour le Merite (Blue Max). It is the first PLM awarded to an Indy player in the squadron's 13 year history, and comes after Hess' 185 hp Fokker DVII (Stephen, 43/23) sent Jim Delp's Camel pilot down with a critical head wound (Lt. Stephen Hawking, 2/0).

In the same dogfight, Aron's younger brother Arthur Hess (Stephen Dale, 10/5) became an ace after he downed Scott Campbell's pilot. Arthur's roll for the Military Merit Order failed, but since it was Stephen Dale's first-ever ace he got over it pretty quick.

Jim and Scott flew together in an interesting mission that featured a giant Gotha bomber (Scott) with a single DrI escort (Jim), attacked by a pair of Bristols (Stephen and Stephen Dale). The Brits were soundly beaten and were lucky to get both of their planes home after Stephen took a pounding from both Germans resulting in 4 engine hits, then promptly jammed his guns.

Going strictly from memory here, I believe Scott also got his first official ace (though the pilot was already experienced) on this night as well and we hope to post all the details here soon, since that is a major achievement (help me here, Scott). Jim's DrI pilot also deserves a mention after scaring off two Bristols, but I neglected to get his name as well (BOO the editor!).

And don't forget our next gaming day, Tuesday, Jan 1st, 10am at Gray Road Bapt Church on the near southeast side of Indy! And thanks to Kevin for finding us a new venue! See you on the 1st!
